Luxury Vintage

I conducted an interview with my friend John who had worked as a luxury sales agent for five years. He was the best candidate for the interview due to his knowledge of vintage things.

During his career, he deals with modern vintage luxuries such as home designs, furniture, and clothing. John is passionate about vintage things. He is mostly interested in post-modern luxury goods. He believes in new ideas and great creativity. He is a social, enthusiastic, and organized individual.

I visited John at his home and had a thirty-minute interview with him about his experience with luxury vintage. "I had this dream since my childhood,'' John said when I asked him my first interview question on when the idea of luxury vintage emerged. Concerning his motivation, John said that he got a deep sense of individual self-fulfillment whenever he performed his job duties. "What are some of the key lessons you have learned during your years in this industry?" I asked John. Before answering this question, John paused for a moment and then said, "I have learned that to be successful in this career, one has to procure and deal with collections of items from around the world. The only secret to transforming your luxury vintage is to embrace the image of style and simple reflections." Concerning the nature of his job, John said that they dealt with design products and lifestyle shop products such as handpicked items from around the world that reflected states of luxury like edgy, beautiful, bohemian and classic luxury living. There are so many fakes around! John exclaimed when I asked him about their fundamental challenge to their product sales maximization.

He gave me an example by showing me Birkin and Kelly bags, which had been authenticated by Hermes, and their fake versions. "How do you get through this challenge?" I asked him. John said that his work as a sales agent was to create product brand awareness for customers so that they might consider buying only authentic and special goods. He also added that when buying products like vintage Hermes bags, one should look at their condition, examine scuff marks and any discoloration. He further explained that for watch brands, only Rolex and Patek Philippe truly held their value according to his knowledge in the industry. When I asked him about their main values, he said that the value that had kept him so unique and successful was transparent at all times. "It is about looking for the value of something from the 80s and making it look relevant today. It is a fundamental approach to the vintage market," John answered my last question about his approach to the vintage market. After this question, I thanked John for his time and for answering my interview questions.

Owing to the interviewee’s general opinions, I have learned some key lessons on luxury vintage as an industry. Firstly, the love for luxury vintage brings self-fulfillment. The second lesson is that despite such challenges as fakes, the market still finds a way to sell its products. Another lesson is that embracing the image and style is crucial to the industry. Moreover, transparency is of great value for success in the industry. Lastly, it is important to establish good growth and development by applying an inner belief system. This interview, therefore, gives important information about luxury vintage. Moreover, it is useful to many people as it provides answers to many questions about the operations of a luxury business.
