These modifications all work to make Diablo 2 Resurrected Itemsa friendly experience, but none that's so friendly it ever stops feeling like the dark, brutal, and sometimes frustrating Diablo 2 which catapulted the franchise to gambling background. And if players have concerns that Diablo 2 Resurrected will alter a great deal, Fergusson assured us unlike Warcraft 3: Reforged, Diablo 2 and Diablo 2 Resurrected are just two individual games; one will not override or impact the other. Resurrected will incorporate all of the content in the Lord of Destruction expansion pack, including the Assassin and Druid player courses.
"it is a great time to bring back Diablo 2," Diablo franchise executive producer Rod Fergusson informed IGN, referencing past season's 20th anniversary of Diablo 2 and also this year's 30th anniversary of Blizzard itself. "It's like video game archaeology, studying the way these things work," explained Vicarious Visions design manager Robert Gallerani. "Because we are using that old method to push things forward, we keep everything exactly the same. As it's not a movie, we don't need to rebuild [anything]. It is basically like we're changing the oil, which makes sure it runs smoothly, but we are not rebuilding everything. We are literally combing every single piece of code" And, he noted with a grin,"if we do fix a bug we must be very careful because everything is interconnected."
What he means by that, Fergusson clarified, is that the Diablo 2 Resurrected team is"adopting the quirks." However, some quality-of-life additions are made. Some are baked in, for example fresh ambient noises like wind rustling the leaves in trees along with a shared stash so that you no longer need to earn a mule character.
