In a new event that begins now and continues until the 3rd of January 2022 players can get their hands on an OSRS gold upgraded version of the iconic "Partyhat", an item originally available during a Christmas event earlier in 2001. The original version was available in red, yellow, green, blue, purple, or white The RuneScape "The Golden Party Hat Hunt" quest will enable players to get one of the sought-after cosmetics with a metallic shine.

As the partyhats were originally only available in limited numbers for a limited time, and then were subsequently removed the lucky player to have one has the option of selling the hats for billions of coins. Although the hats are just for decoration and do not provide statistics, they're currently one of the highest priced items on the Grand Exchange, hitting the maximum price of 2.1billion gold in 2015.

To obtain the heads of the Golden Party Hat, players will need to meet "various goals" and collect eight golden shreds in return for their efforts. After the eight shards are earned, they are used to create the Golden Party Hat.

However this isn't the only event time-bound, but just one golden hat is made per player. Similar to their predecessors in 2001, Jagex says of the golden the hats "after the cut-off time they will never be available to earn again!"

Whether the new item interrupts the game's economy and reduces the value of the existing party hats or transforms into an even more premium item remains to be seen. Jagex will be celebrating the occasion in the same manner with a change to the in-game Grand Exchange location into "a Golden Party Hat winter wonderland".
